What is the role of the National Visa Center (NVC)?

Updated: Feb 25, 2022

The National Visa Center (NVC) is part of the Bureau of Consular Affairs of the United States Department of State. The NVC performs an administrative function in the processing of immigrant visa applications. The NVC is another section of the US government that helps with the immigration process, focusing on the visa application. Their primary job is to prepare immigrant visa applications for consular officers to review and adjudicate. The NVC works with visa applicants and their application package. Its main function is to make sure that the applicant receives the minimum documentation required by the consular officer and completes it correctly. One thing that is extremely important to note about the NVC and document submission is to make sure that you submit all documents to the NVC in one package. DO NOT submit the original documents to the NVC and on the Affidavit of Support Form, be sure to submit all pages, even if they are blank. Once the applicant packet has been submitted, interviews are scheduled monthly, so it is suggested that you wait at least 90 days from notification that the applicants case is documented qualified before calling for an update. of the interview. You can contact the NVC Customer Support Center Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. m. at midnight ET, their number is 1-603-334-0700.
